Learn the job behind every EMR change.

EHRICO (Electronic Health Records Implementation and Clinic Operations) teaches you to run an EMR project from signed order to go-live and beyond, and to do the clinic's daily work in the EMR, from the front desk to billing. Vendor-neutral. Built by an implementation specialist from real clinic go-lives.

What you'll learn

Every clinic that switches systems, joins a health system, or adds a new tool needs someone who can run the change and teach the staff. EHRICO follows one clinic, Cedar Point Internal Medicine, through its whole EMR project, so each skill lands in a real situation.

Foundations

Healthcare settings and roles, the rules and regulators, health IT basics, and medical terminology you can actually use.

Start the project

Read the order, run the internal handoff, plan backward from go-live, and lead the kickoff call.

Design and train

Shadow the clinic, design its workflows, and train every role: front desk, clinical staff, providers, and billing.

Test, convert, and connect

Test the system, move the old data, connect labs, e-prescribing, and the clearinghouse, and set up alerts and AI tools safely.

Go live and improve

Readiness and the go/no-go decision, go-live support, transition to support, and optimization after go-live.

  1. Healthcare, health IT, and the language of the job
  2. Handoff and initial scope
  3. Project planning and the go-live date
  4. The kickoff call and weekly status
  5. Discovery, fit-gap design, and design freeze
  6. General workflow training
  7. Role-based training: providers, clinical staff, and billing
  8. Testing before go-live
  9. Data conversion and cutover
  10. Integrations, enrollments, and the revenue cycle
  11. Alerts, automation, and AI
  12. Go-live readiness and the go/no-go decision
  13. Go-live and stabilization
  14. After go-live: transition to support and optimization

How it works

Built on how adults actually learn: short sections, quick self-checks, worked examples, spaced review, and hands-on practice in a real EMR.

๐Ÿ“˜ The course book

An 8.5 ร— 11 illustrated textbook with a plain-language glossary. Read in print, as a PDF, or online.

๐Ÿ’ป Online lessons and quizzes

Lessons with "Check yourself" questions, module quizzes that explain every answer, and review along the way.

๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ Hands-on labs

"Try it" labs in a practice EMR loaded with fictional patients: register a patient, chart a visit, route a result, post a payment, run a report.

๐Ÿ“ Capstone and final exam

Produce real implementation work products, then pass a proctored final exam written to professional exam standards.

Ready for more than one exam. EHRICO teaches and gives practice on every topic in the published outlines for the NHA Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) exam and the HIMSS Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CAHIMS) exam. Those exams are run by their own organizations, which set their own eligibility rules.

About 120 hours, including the hands-on labs. Self-paced, with up to 6 months to finish. No IT experience needed; front-desk, clinical, billing, IT, and project backgrounds all help.

Join the free pilot

We're looking for 10 to 30 people to take the full program free before public launch and tell us honestly what works and what doesn't. Pilot learners who meet the final standards receive the certificate.

What we ask: about 10 hours a week for about 12 weeks, a short weekly check-in, the capstone and the proctored final exam, and an end-of-course survey. Never use real patient or employer information in course work.

Questions

Is this a certification or a license?

EHRICO is a certificate issued by MAS Publishing Company after a proctored exam and capstone, and the program is working toward independent accreditation. It is not a license (no state licenses this work) and not a vendor certification such as Epic's.

Will it prepare me for CEHRS or CAHIMS?

Yes, the course covers every topic in both published outlines, with practice. You register for those exams with NHA or HIMSS, and they decide who is eligible. EHRICO is not affiliated with or endorsed by NHA or HIMSS.

Do I need IT experience?

No. Module 0 starts from the beginning: how clinics work, who does what, and the language of health IT.

What does it cost?

The pilot is free. Public pricing will be announced at launch.
